How this works
Real live checksEach check performs an actual search and looks for your domain in the results - not simulated data.
Checks can failGoogle especially may occasionally block automated checks - this is reported honestly rather than guessed at. Bing is generally more reliable.
Location is approximateWe use each engine's own country/language settings, not a physical proxy in that location.
Fully automatic daily checksRequires your site administrator to set up a real server cron job (instructions were shown after this tool was installed).

About Position Tracking

Position Tracking monitors where a domain ranks for chosen keywords on Google or Bing, across desktop or mobile, and keeps a running history so you can watch movement over time - for your own site and for competitors. Each tracked keyword is checked by performing a real, live search and locating the target domain in the results; positions are saved with a timestamp so a history builds up every time a check runs. Checks can be run on demand at any time from this page. True automatic daily checking additionally requires the site administrator to point a real server cron job at this tool's cron endpoint (full instructions and a unique secret are shown after installation) - without that step, tracking still works perfectly, just on-demand rather than fully automatic. Because this works by performing live searches rather than using a paid, official rank-tracking data feed, occasional failed checks are normal, especially on Google, which actively rate-limits automated traffic; Bing is generally more reliable for this. Location targeting uses each search engine's own country/language parameters rather than a physical proxy in that location, so it approximates - not guarantees - what a person physically located there would see.
